The density of the crustal rocks of SIAL is approximately 2.7 g/cm³, and the density of the crustal rocks of SIMA is about 2.9 g/cm³. SIAL is the upper layer of the earth’s crust, composed mainly of silica and aluminium, and corresponds to granite-like rocks. SIMA is the lower layer beneath SIAL, composed mainly of silica and magnesium, similar in composition to basaltic rocks. SIAL is lighter and found on the continents, whereas SIMA is denser and found on ocean beds.
