Mention any two causes for the Second World War.

1. Harsh terms of the Treaty of Versailles. The treaty imposed heavy reparations, territorial losses and military limits on Germany; this caused bitterness, economic hardship and helped the rise of extremist nationalism (Nazism).
2. Rise of Fascism and Nazism, and aggressive expansion. Dictators (Hitler, Mussolini, militarist Japan) rearmed, pursued territorial expansion (e.g., Austria, Czechoslovakia, China) and ignored peaceful protest, which led directly to war.
