1. India has a long coastline (7516 km.) in Southern India, which allows for the country's vast potential in tidal and wave energy.
2. On the western coast of Gujarat, the Gulf of Khambhat and the Gulf of Kachchh provide ideal conditions.
3. The Gangetic delta in the Sundarbans region also has enormous potential for tidal energy utilisation.
4. However, little has been done to develop tidal and wave energy because other non-conventional sources provide energy at much lower installation costs.
