Solution

The following are the drawbacks of Darwinism:

  1. Darwin could not explain the origin of variations or how they arise. He failed to distinguish between environmental and hereditary variations.
  2. Darwin did not differentiate between somatic and germinal variations. He mistakenly considered all variations as heritable.
  3. Darwin’s theory lacked clarity on how new characters arose or how the “arrival of the fittest” occurred. He didn’t explain how advantageous traits were inherited.
  4. Darwin believed in gradual evolution, but he didn’t recognize intermediate forms. He also couldn’t explain species extinction or vestigial organs.
  5. Darwin couldn’t explain neutral traits or hybrid sterility. He also overlooked the hindrance caused by over-specialized organs like tusks and antlers.
