On the other hand, communalism represents the demands of a particular religious community for a separate independent region to rule over or for their own vested interests.

Regionalism often advocates development, autonomy, or recognition for a specific geographical area within a country. Decentralisation and federalism can make it compatible with democratic frameworks. Communism, on the other hand, fosters hostility and violence between religious communities, threatening national unity and secularism. As a result, whereas regionalism may be handled by discussion and policy reforms, communalism offers a more serious threat to national peace, harmony, and the constitutional framework.
