Solution
Nehru was not a superman, but he had an exceptional influence on India’s early foreign policy. As Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, he shaped the policy of non-alignment, supported Asian and African unity, and sought to protect India’s sovereignty while promoting development. His assessments were not always correct: his confidence about China and India’s military preparedness was seriously criticised after the 1962 war. His prominence reflects both his actual leadership and the central role he held in government; his record should be assessed with both achievements and mistakes in view.
