Solution

India can be described more accurately as a “Salad Bowl” rather than a “Melting Pot.”

In a melting pot, different cultures merge and gradually lose their separate identities. In a salad bowl, different groups preserve their own languages, religions, customs and traditions while living together as part of one society.

India has great diversity in language, religion, food, dress, festivals and regional traditions. These differences continue to exist, but people are united through common citizenship, constitutional values and a shared national identity.

Therefore, India is often seen as an example of “unity in diversity,” which is closer to the Salad Bowl model.
