Every vital organ performs a specific function necessary for survival. The brain controls and coordinates all vital activities, while the heart circulates blood throughout the body. Lungs are responsible for respiration, and kidneys filter out nitrogenous waste products from the blood. In this way, each organ performs its own function. However, a few organs, such as the appendix, do not perform any function.
