Solution
During the Cold War, India was on the other side of the split from the US. Between those years, India’s best friend was the Soviet Union.
- When the Soviet Union broke up, India found itself without any friends in a world that was becoming more and more unfriendly.
- India has good ties with Russia, but some people believe it would be smarter for the country to work with the dominant power, the US, and take advantage of the chances that come with that. For example, if you want to boost economic growth, you need to trade, spend, and share technology more, and the best way to do this is to work with the US rather than against it.
- Some people think that the fact that the US and India’s goals are becoming more similar is a great chance for India. It is their belief that India should use the US’s power to its advantage in order to find the best choices for itself. India should change its foreign strategy and get along better with the US because of this.
