Solution

Given:

6x2 + x − 7 = 0

Verification

Substitute x = `7/6` in the left-hand side (LHS):

`6 (7/6)^2 + 7/6 - 7`

`= 6xx49/36 + 7/6 - 7`

`= 49/6 + 7/6 - 7`

`= 56/6 - 7`

`= 28/3 -7`

`= 28/3 - 21/3`

`= 7/3`

Since the LHS ≠ 0,

`x = 7/6` is not a solution of 6x2 + x − 7 = 0
