In the adjoining figure; AB = 16 cm, DM = 4 cm and BC = 8 cm. Find the length of DN.

Solution

Given:

AB = 16 cm

DM = 4 cm

BC = 8 cm

Step-wise calculation:

1. Area of parallelogram ABCD

= Base × Corresponding altitude

= AB × DM

= 16 × 4

= 64 cm2

2. The same area

= Other base × Its corresponding altitude

= BC × DN

Therefore, DN

= `"Area"/(BC)` 

= `64/8`

= 8 cm
