In a mixture of 126 kg of milk and water, milk and water are in ratio 5 : 2. How much water must be added to the mixture to make this ratio 3 : 2?

Solution
Let x signify water in original mixture and y signifies milk
x + y = 126
5x = 2y
or x = `y/2.5`
`y + (y/2.5) = 126`
y = 90 kgs (milk)
x = 36 kgs (water)
Milk remains same as 90 kgs
ratio is 3 : 2
let new water content be z
3z = 2 × 90
Water quantity new = 60 kgs
Extra water added = 24 kgs
