Let us now divide f(x) by x + a.

We have, 

                         2x + 5

           `+ \cancel(2x^2) + 2ax`

                     `+ \cancel(5x) + 0  +10`
                     `+ \cancel(5x) + 5a + 0`
                      –      –               
                              –5a + 10

Now, remainder = 0 

–5a + 10 = 0 

–5a = –10 

`a = -10/5` 

a = –2

Hence, the value of a is 2.
