Solution

Given:

x2 + mx + n = 0

Using relations between roots and coefficients

Sum of roots = −m

Product of roots = n

3 + (−1) = 2

−m = 2

⇒ m = −2

Find the product of the roots

3 × (−1) = −3

n = −3

m = −2 and n = −3
