If A = {2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}, determine the truth value of the following statement.

∃ x ∈ A, such that 3x + 2 > 9

Solution

For x = 3, 3x + 2 = 3(3) + 2 = 9 + 2 = 11 > 9

∴ x = 3 satisfies the equation 3x + 2 > 9.

∴ The given statement is true.

∴ Its truth value is T.
