If 4x + 3 : 7x − 1 be the duplicate ratio of 3 : 4, find the value of x.

The duplicate ratio of 3 : 4

= 32 : 42

= 9 : 16

Now,

`(4x + 3)/(7x - 1) = 9/16`

⇒ 16(4x + 3) = 9(7x − 1)

⇒ 64x + 48 = 63x − 9

⇒ 64x − 63x = − 9 − 48

⇒ x = −57
