Solution

In perfect competition, all firms produce homogeneous (identical) products, which are perfect substitutes for one another. This means that the physical characteristics (such as quality, colour, and design) and the environmental factors (like store location, credit facility, and behaviour of sales staff) are exactly the same across all sellers. Because there is no distinction between the products of different firms, buyers are indifferent toward which seller they purchase from.

As a result, no firm can charge a higher price than the prevailing market price. If it does, consumers will instantly shift to competitors since the product is available at a lower price elsewhere with no difference in quality. This process ensures that a uniform price is maintained throughout the market.
