- The domination of one political party is not unique to India. There are various examples of one-party dominance around the world. However, there is a significant gap between these and what Indians have experienced. In the remaining cases, one party's dominance was preserved by undermining democracy.
- Several countries, including Syria, China, and Cuba, have constitutions that only allow one party to hold power.
- Others, such as Myanmar, Belarus, Egypt, and Eritrea, have one-party governments as a result of governmental and armed activities. Mexico, South Korea, and Taiwan were all effectively one-party dominating states until recently.
- The Congress party's dominance in India stood out from all of these examples since it occurred in a democratic setting. Despite the fact that other parties ran in free and fair elections, the Congress was able to win them all. This was akin to the African National Congress's supremacy in South Africa when apartheid ended.
