Solution
In an AC generator, the fluctuating current is made smooth by winding a number of coils on the same soft iron core, such that each coil is placed at a small angle to the next coil. When the armature rotates, the induced e.m.f. in one coil starts decreasing at the same time as the induced e.m.f. in the next coil becomes maximum. So, the total e.m.f. produced does not fall to zero, and the current remains almost steady and smooth.
