Solution
The sun's rays fall vertically on the Tropic of Cancer at the Northern Hemisphere's summer solstice. At the equator, sunlight lasts for 12 hours; at 23 1/2° N, it lasts for 13 hours and 27 minutes; at 66 1/2° N, it lasts for 24 hours. The areas outside the Arctic Circle have 24-hour daylight. This phenomenon, which only occurs near the poles, is known as the "Midnight Sun."
