Printing technology greatly influenced the lives of Indian women in the nineteenth century by making education and reading material more easily available, even within conservative households. This opened new opportunities for women to gain knowledge and express their ideas.

1. Increased Access to Education: The spread of printed books and study materials made it easier for middle-class families to educate women. From the mid-nineteenth century onwards, many progressive fathers and husbands began sending their daughters to newly established schools in towns and cities. 
2. Challenging Conservative Norms: Despite resistance from orthodox families, some women challenged restrictions on female education. For instance, Rashsundari Debi of East Bengal learned to read secretly and later wrote her autobiography Amar Jiban in 1876.
3. Women About Their Own Writing Lives: With the rise of social reform movements, women started writing about their own experiences. Writers like Kailashbashini Debi exposed the oppression faced by women, such as excessive domestic work, lack of education, and unfair treatment. During the 1880s, reformers like Tarabai Shinde and Pandita Ramabai strongly criticised the harsh conditions of upper-caste Hindu widows and highlighted their suffering.
4. Development of Women’s Journals: By the early twentieth century, magazines written for women,or edited by them,became very popular. These journals discussed issues such as women’s education, widowhood, widow remarriage, and nationalism, along with household advice, fashion, and entertainment, creating a new reading culture among women.
5. Regional Impact and Literature for Women: In regions like Punjab, books such as Istri Dharm Vichar promoted traditional roles for women, while in Bengal, the Battala printing centre produced large numbers of books for women, making literature widely accessible.
