Solution
Alluvial plains are formed by the process of deposition of sediments by rivers. Specifically, they are depositional plains created from the accumulation of fine soil called alluvium deposited by river systems. These sediments are carried by the rivers as they flow from the mountains or higher lands towards the plains and the sea. When the river velocity decreases in the flatter plains, it loses the capacity to carry sediments, leading to their deposition. Over time, this deposited material builds up to form extensive flat plains called alluvial plains.
