Solution
Spirulina is a cyanobacteria which can be used as a single-cell protein (SCP). Single-cell proteins are the alternate sources of edible proteins derived from microorganisms for animal and human nutrition. Microbes like spirulina can be grown easily on materials like wastewater containing starch, straw, molasses, animal manure, and even sewage. Such utilisation of substrates thus reduces environmental pollution. Also, these microbes serve as a great source of nutrition, as they are rich in proteins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates, and vitamins.
Thus, growing such microbes on a large scale is beneficial both environmentally and nutritionally for humans.
