Solution
- Silver Nitrate Test: Add silver nitrate (AgNO3) solution to the salt solution. A curdy white precipitate of silver chloride (AgCl)) forms, which dissolves completely in excess ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH).
- Chromyl Chloride Test: Heat the dry salt with solid potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) and concentrated sulphuric acid. Distinct reddish-brown vapours of chromyl chloride (CrO2Cl2) will evolve.
