Solution
Laterite soils, which harden like iron when exposed to air, are commonly employed as building materials. They appear red due to the presence of iron oxide. These soils are often gritty, friable and porous in nature. They are extremely rich in iron but lacking in lime, magnesium, phosphoric and potassium. Laterite soil has unique qualities that make it a great building material.
