The coromandel coast remains dry in July-August because the Bay of Bengal branch of the southwest monsoon winds blows parallel to this coast and does not release much rainfall there due to the absence of any significant barrier like the Eastern Ghats. As a result, very little moisture is shed as rain on the coromandel coast during this period, making it dry in July-August.
