Ethene gas decolourises the purple colour of KMnO4, whereas ethane does not decolourise KMnO4 solution.
Solution 2
Add a few drops of a bromine solution in carbon tetrachloride to the provided gas. The reddish hue of bromine discharges in the case of ethylene gas. Nevertheless, the reddish bromine hue does not release in the case of ethane gas.
