Solution

The work done against gravity depends on the person’s mass and the vertical height climbed, not on the route taken. For either person, (W = mgh), where (h) is the height from the ground floor to the fourth floor. Thus, if the two people have equal masses, the work done is the same in both cases - whether climbing the staircase or using the elevator. If their masses differ, their work differs in proportion to their masses.
