Solution

If Hamlet had chosen forgiveness and given up his vow to avenge his father, he might have avoided the chain of violence that eventually cost him his life. In his soliloquy, he recognises that fear and reflection make people hesitate before acting; this pause could have allowed him to choose reconciliation rather than revenge. However, forgiveness would not necessarily have stopped Claudius’s schemes, so Hamlet’s survival could not have been guaranteed. Still, letting go of vengeance might have freed him from the destructive burden of revenge.
