Solution

Given,

For a standard television set, the horizontal length to the height is in the ratio 4 : 3. Find the length of 35 inches television.

Pythagoras theorem states that in a right-angled triangle, the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares on the remaining two sides.

⇒ (Hypotenuse)2 = (base)2 + (height)2

⇒ (35)2 = (4x)2 + (3x)2

⇒ 1225 = 16x2 + 9x2

⇒ 1225 = 25x2

⇒ 49 = x2

⇒ 7 inches = x

The length of the TV = 7 × 4 = 28 inches.

Hence, this is required.
