Find the single discount (as a percent) equivalent to successive discounts of:
 60% and 60%

Solution

Successive discounts = 60% and 60%

Let M.P. = ₹100

Then S.P. after two discounts,

`=₹(100(100-60)xx(100-60))/(100xx100)`

`=(100xx40xx40)/(100xx100)=₹16`

∴ Total discount = ₹100 − 16 = ₹84

∴ Single discount = 84%
