Solution

Given:

5x2 − 24x − 5 = 0

Here,

a = 5, b = −24, c = −5

`x = (-b +- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)`

`x = (24 +- sqrt(-24)^2 - 4(5)(-5))/(2(5))`

`x = (24 +- sqrt(576 + 100))/10`

`x = (24 +- sqrt676)/10`

`x = (24 +- 26)/10`

`x = (24+26)/10`

`= 50/10`

= 5

`x = (24-26)/10`

`= (-2)/10`

`=-1/5`

The roots of the equation are: `5 and -1/5`
