Find the equation of the line that passes through the point (−2, −5) and is perpendicular to the Y-axis.

A line perpendicular to the y‑axis is horizontal, i.e., parallel to the x‑axis,

The equation of any line parallel to the x‑axis is y = a,

Since the required line passes through P(−2, −5),

∴ a =  −5

Hence, the equation is y = −5.
