Find the equation of the line that is parallel to the Y-axis and passes through the point (3, −4).

Solution

Any line parallel to the Y-axis is a vertical line of the form x = a,

Where a is the x-coordinate of every point on the line,

Since the line passes through (3, −4),

∴ a = 3

Hence, the equation of the required line is x = 3.
