  Igneous Rocks Metamorphic Rocks
1. Igneous rocks are formed due to the cooling and solidification of magma and lava. These are also known as primary rocks. Metamorphic rocks are those that are formed when existing igneous, sedimentary, or even older metamorphic rocks are transformed due to intense heat, pressure, or chemically active fluids, without melting. This process is called metamorphism.
2. These are derived from material within the Earth’s crust. These are formed by the transformation (metamorphism) of existing rocks inside the Earth.
3. Example: Basalt, Granite, etc. Examples: Marble, Slate, Gneiss
