Find the co-ordinates of the centroid of a triangle whose vertices are (4, 0), (2, 3), and (0, 0).

Solution

The centroid G is at the average of the vertices’ coordinates,

Using `(x_1 + x_2 + x_3) / 3, (y_1 + y_2 + y_3) / 3`, 

For (4, 0), (2, 3), and (0, 0), we get,

⇒ x = `(4 + 2 + 0) / 3`

= `6/3`

∴ x = 2

⇒ y = `(0 + 3 + 0) / 3`

= `3 / 3`

∴ y = 1

Hence, the centroid is G = (2, 1).
