Facilities Offered to Patients

  1. Outpatient Department (OPD) for examination and consultation by doctors.
  2. Emergency and casualty services for accidents and serious illnesses.
  3. Indoor treatment and hospital beds for patients who need admission.
  4. Medical and surgical treatment through different specialist departments.
  5. Diagnostic facilities such as blood tests, X-rays, CT scans and other investigations, depending on the hospital.
  6. Maternal and child healthcare, including treatment for women and children.
  7. Medicines and treatment at affordable or subsidised rates under the municipal healthcare system.
  8. Specialised treatment and referral services are available at major teaching hospitals such as KEM. BMC describes KEM's functions as medical education, healthcare, patient care and research. BMC

Procedure for Taking Treatment

A person who wants treatment should first go to the hospital's registration or OPD counter. The patient provides the required personal details and obtains an OPD case paper or registration record. The patient then visits the concerned doctor or department for examination. If required, the doctor may advise tests, medicines, further treatment or admission to the hospital. In an emergency, the patient should go directly to the casualty or emergency department, where urgent treatment is provided.
