3. Forest communities are also becoming more connected with markets, education, transport and employment opportunities.
4. At the same time, forests are now protected through government conservation programmes, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and other protected areas.
5. In the Mughal period described in “Peasants, Zamindars and the State,” forests were often cleared to create agricultural land and new settlements.
6. One similarity is that in both periods, human activities have affected forests and the lives of forest dwellers.
7. The main difference is that earlier, forests were mainly cleared for farming and settlement, while today changes are also caused by modern development, transport, industries and tourism.

Therefore, some causes of change are similar, but the nature and scale of changes are different today, and forest conservation has also become an important concern.
