Three Battles of Panipat:

  1. First Battle – 21 April 1526:
    • Battle Parties: Zahir-ud-din Babur (Mughal) vs. Ibrahim Lodi (Delhi Sultanate)
    • Significance: Babur's victory established the Mughal Empire in India.
    • Strategy: Babur used new warfare techniques like artillery and ‘Tulughama’, which enabled him to defeat a numerically larger army. 
  2. Second Battle – 5 November 1556:
    • Battle Parties: Akbar (Mughal) vs. Hemchandra Vikramaditya (Hemu)
    • Event: Hemu had conquered Delhi and Agra and declared himself emperor.
    • Outcome: After Hemu's death, the Mughals recaptured Delhi, and Akbar's empire became stronger.
  3. Third Battle – 14 January 1761:
    • Battle parties: Maratha Empire (Sadashivrao Bhau) vs. Ahmad Shah Abdali (Afghanistan)
    • Reason: Struggle for supremacy in North India
    • Outcome: Marathas were defeated, which reduced their power and paved the way for the expansion of the British Empire.
