Women related policies of the government of India

1. Initially, the government of India's policy placed emphasis on the welfare of women.
2. In 1986, a separate department was established for women and child welfare.
3.  The focus shifted to the empowerment of women in the 1990s. The 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments provided 33% reservation of seats and positions in urban and rural local governments for women.
4. More recently, the emphasis has turned to women's development. They are encouraged to form Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and achieve financial self-sufficiency.

5. Several laws have been enacted to protect the interests of women and provide safeguards against violence.
