Solution
I exported the same video in different formats and compared their file size, compatibility and quality.
| Video Format | Quality | File Size | Main Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| MP4 | Good to very high | Small to medium | Most common format for mobiles, websites and social media |
| AVI | High | Large | Suitable for editing and storing high-quality video |
| MOV | High | Medium to large | Commonly used on Apple devices and in video editing |
| MKV | Very high | Medium to large | Supports high-quality video, multiple audio tracks and subtitles |
| WebM | Good | Small | Mainly used for web and online video |
| 3GP | Low to medium | Very small | Used mainly on older mobile devices |
The quality of an exported video depends on factors such as resolution, frame rate, bit rate, codec and compression. A higher resolution and bit rate generally produce better video quality, but the file size also becomes larger. More compression reduces file size but may reduce picture and sound quality.
Some widely used modern video formats and codecs include MP4 with H.264 or H.265/HEVC, WebM with VP9 or AV1, and MKV containers supporting modern codecs such as AV1. AV1 and H.265 can provide high video quality at a lower file size compared with older compression methods.
For general use, MP4 is the most suitable format because it provides good quality, smaller file size and wide compatibility with computers, mobile phones and online platforms.
