A Thomas splint is a long leg splint used to support and immobilise a fractured leg. It extends from a ring at the hip to beyond the foot and provides traction. It is mainly used in emergencies for femoral shaft fractures and sometimes for knee injuries while transporting the casualty to a medical centre.
