Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay was a prominent social reformer, freedom fighter, and advocate for women’s rights. She worked throughout her life to promote gender equality and social justice. She was an active member of the Indian National Congress and played an important role in the freedom movement.
Kamaladevi convinced Mahatma Gandhi to allow women to participate in the Salt Satyagraha, giving them a significant role in India’s struggle for independence. After independence, she worked for the upliftment of women, workers, and farmers. She also promoted Indian handicrafts, arts, and theater, helping rural artisans earn livelihoods.
Her efforts greatly contributed to women’s empowerment and the preservation of India’s cultural heritage.
