Solution
A leg bye is awarded to the batting side when the batter does not strike the ball with the bat, but it hits their body or protective equipment. If the ball deflects off the batter in this way, the batter may run and score just as they would after a normal hit. Any runs completed are recorded as leg byes and added to the team’s total, but they are not credited to the batter’s personal score or counted against the bowler’s runs conceded. Umpires indicate a leg bye by touching a raised knee or leg.
