Solution
A shattered bone is referred to in medicine as a fracture. They happen when the force applied to the bone is greater than the force of the bone itself. To prevent more harm, don’t move the victim unless absolutely required. While you wait for medical assistance, do these steps right away:
- Stop any bleeding: Using a sterile bandage, a clean cloth, or a clean article of clothing, apply pressure to the wound.
- Immobilise the injured area: Avoid attempting to press a protruding bone back in or realign the bone. Apply a splint to the area above and below the fracture sites if you are trained to do so and expert assistance is not easily accessible.
- Apply ice packs: Use ice packs to reduce swelling and ease discomfort. Avoid putting ice directly on the skin. Cover the ice with a cloth, towel, or other piece of material.
- Treat for shock: Lay the patient down with the head slightly below the trunk and, if at all feasible, raise the legs if they appear faint or are breathing quickly.
