2. Start of the shootout

  1. The umpire blows the whistle to signal the start.
  2. The attacker starts from behind the 23 m line, near the ball.
  3. The attacker and the goalkeeper may then move in any direction.

3. The shootout ends when any one of these occurs

  1. 8 seconds have elapsed.
  2. The attacker scores a goal.
  3. The attacker commits an offence.
  4. The goalkeeper commits an offence (a goal is awarded).
  5. The ball goes out of play over the back line. This includes the case where the goalkeeper intentionally plays the ball over the back line to end the shootout.
