Compound: “Is a pure substance made up of two or more elements combined chemically by in a fixed proportion.”
Example: CO2 carbon dioxide is made up of two elements carbon and oxygen C,
12 parts by weight and oxygen
2 × 16 = 32 parts by weight
i.e. in ratio C : O = 12 : 16 = 3 : 4
