An illegal substitution occurs when:
- The team exceeds the maximum number of substitutions in each set.
- The substitute enters the court without the referee’s authorisation or while the ball is in play.
- Players transfer places outside the rotation order or without according to the official substitution procedure.
- An unfit player (due to injury or previous disqualification) gets substituted.
