Solution

A volcanic plateau is formed when lava, mainly basalt with low viscosity, erupts through fissures and spreads out in successive thin sheets over a large area. These layers of solidified lava accumulate one above another, causing the region to rise uniformly and form a broad, flat elevated area called a plateau. Examples include the Deccan Plateau in India, formed by multiple lava flows over time. The key is that the lava flows are fluid enough to spread widely rather than build up steep volcanic mountains.
