Tube wells

Tube wells are deep, narrow borewells created by drilling a pipe deep into the earth to draw water from very reliable subsurface aquifers. Unlike shallow, wide open wells, tube wells use a mechanical assembly in which an iron or PVC casing pipe is bored deep past the upper water table, and a strainer piece at the bottom filters out sand while allowing groundwater to enter the tube. This gathered water is then hoisted to the surface by strong electric, diesel, or solar-powered submersible pumps, resulting in a large, on-demand supply. Tube wells, which draw from deep underground reservoirs, do not dry up quickly during the summer, making them the most reliable and extensive source of contemporary well irrigation for intensive agriculture in locations such as the Indo-Gangetic plains.
